Head of Contract Manufacturing

Seattle Genetics, Inc. is a new and growing biotechnology company based in Bothell, Washington.The Company is in clinical and preclinical development with several targeted agents for the treatment of carcinomas, melanomas, and hematologic malignancies. Seattle Genetics also has an active drug discovery effort.

This individual is responsible for developing and implementing a contract manufacturing strategy for Seattle Genetics. The job includes oversight of all interactions with contract manufacturers including the management of technical issues, vendor evaluation and selection processes, schedule management, and ensuring that the vendor meets quality and regulatory standards.

The Head of Contract Manufacturing will be responsible for evaluation of current and potential contract manufacturing organizations, vendor selection, and administration of contract manufacturing budgets. The Head of Contract Manufacturing will have overall responsibility for the purchase and delivery of drug substances and drug product for clinical and commercial use.

Additional duties include the following:

  • Defining contract manufacturing goals and ensuring that vendors meet those goals.
  • Developing and managing an outsourcing budget.
  • Establishing appropriate metrics to measure vendor performance.
  • Identifying potential new vendors and establishing those relationships.
  • Coordinating the development of documentation that will support key regulatory filings.
  • Hire and mentor contract manufacturing project coordinators.
  • Represent manufacturing issues on project teams.

Qualifications:

Experience: 10+ years of progressively increasing responsibilities and management experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry including 5 or more years experience managing contract manufacturing relationships. Preference for experience in the management of biologics contract manufacturing for Phase III or commercial compounds with an in-depth understanding of biopharmaceutical manufacturing and regulatory requirements. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices relating to contract manufacturing is desirable. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment. Education: Masters or PhD degree in biology, chemistry, or chemical engineering or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
