Mechanical Design Engineer

The Mechanical Engineer will work with other personnel to design and characterize innovative medical devices, and assist with product testing and validation. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for various aspects of product development including mechanical design, materials procurement, feasibility hardware fabrication, development and execution of characterization testing, and manufacturing. Product validation activities will include test protocol development, participation in product testing, and test report preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the mechanical design and development of various medical devices.
  • Responsible for all aspects of designs from concept development through product launch.
  • Generate solid models, drawings and specifications.
  • Write, execute, and perform design verification testing.
  • Interface with vendors for critical component selection and tool qualification.

Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5 to 10 years of product design/development experience, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience with design of injection molded, machined, and extruded components.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping methods.
  • Experience taking products from concept to manufacturing. Manufacturing experience a plus.
  • Design verification testing background, including statistical methods and fixture design.
  • Experience using 3D modeling (Solid Works preferred).
  • A working understanding of FDA QSR.
  • Hands-on experience assembling, testing, and trouble shooting medical devices.
  • In-vivo and ex-vivo tissue testing background.
  • Design of Experiments knowledge desired.
  • Requires a motivated individual that is able to work with minimal supervision.
