Clinical Research Nurse

Job Description:

Coordinates, and implements clinical research studies involving human subjects with leukemia and lymphoma and perform clinical procedures. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Principal Investigators, IND sponsor, and under the authority of attending physicians, performing responsibilities with a high level of independence within the scope of study protocols, guidelines, and good clinical practice.

Job Duties:

  • Manage the daily operation of radioimmunotherapy research studies, monitoring protocol compliance and patient toxicities. RN will also function as the primary liaison between patient and physicians.
  • Perform clinical procedures including blood draws from port-a-caths, Hickman catheters, and peripheral sites; monitor vital signs; deliver intravenous medications including administering intravenous radioisotopes.
  • Determine patient study eligibility, obtain informed consent, and initiate patient enrollment.
  • Facilitate long-term follow up of protocol patients, including scheduling clinic visits, bone marrow biopsies, and dispensing questionnaires.
  • Collect and record adverse events on patients undergoing treatment including preparing reports for expedited serous adverse events.
  • Acting as a liaison between potential patients and referring MDs regarding radioimmunotherapy protocols.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with protocol development and revision.
  • Perform blood draws, drug administration, physical examinations, specimen collection, and dosage adjustments (with supervision of study physicians).
  • Teach the health care teams, ancillary departments, patients, and families about the studies through in-services and informal presentations.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge in the field through attending related project meetings and symposia, reading related literature, and maintaining professional associations.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • RN with minimum of one year of oncology nursing experience and previous experience in clinical research nursing.
  • Some experience with FDA adverse event reporting policies desirable.
  • Experience with leukemia/lymphoma/hematologic malignancies preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal abilities.
