Department: Research Grants – Surgery.

Salary: Min. $13.77 per hour, DOE.

Hours: Full-time (1.0), days.

Location: 307 Westlake.

The Research Scientist I (Dr. Kim’s Lab) in Research Grants – Surgery focuses on investigating the growth and regeneration of functional gastrointestinal tissue (tissue engineering) using isolated cells combined with complex biodegradable polymer scaffolds; actively participates in a collaborative fashion with and under the supervision of the PI in all of the day-to-day activities including the planning, execution, and analysis of the research experiments related to the overall mission of the laboratory; carries out research/development activities, makes detailed observations, analyzes data and interprets results; conducts experiments using modern molecular biologic techniques; performs cell/tissue harvest, culture, and small animal surgery; compiles and analyzes scientific data; manages administrative and quality assurance functions of the laboratory.

Requires bachelor’s level degree in Molecular/Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Engineering or related field; at least 2 years applicable experience; experience in cell culture, protein assays, and molecular techniques; familiarity with a variety of modern concepts, practices, and procedures; a wide degree of independent judgment. Prefers experience in handling rabbits or rodents in a laboratory setting; familiarity with computers: data entry, spreadsheets, word processor, image capture/manipulation; experience in analyzing data using statistical analysis.
