Head of Business Development

This new position will be responsible for initiating, evaluating, developing, negotiating and managing external business relationships for Seattle Genetics. This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and will be a key participant in sourcing and negotiating partnership arrangements in consultation with members of the senior management team. The position will supervise two direct reports, a Senior Manager, Business Development and a Business Alliance Manager.

Specific duties include:

  • Identifying and evaluating partnership candidates with whom Seattle Genetics can build industry and technology alliances.
  • Directing the policies and programs relating to corporate licensing objectives for the acquisition of technology and potential products.
  • Structuring proposals and making recommendations to the senior management team on strategic business alliances.
  • Working closely with legal in structuring transactions.
  • Managing existing collaborations with other companies.

Requirements:

A successful candidate will have at least 5 years of previous business development experience in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company (specifically therapeutics), and demonstrated success in initiating, closing and managing product partnering, licensing and collaboration relationships. A scientific background and familiarity with the antibody space is a plus as well. Candidates must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong quantitative and negotiation skills.
