Scientist/Senior Scientist, Preclinical Pharmacology

Ikaria Inc. is an exciting new company dedicated to the development and commercialization of new products based on reversible metabolic control, particularly for its use as a treatment for acute trauma, during surgery and extending the length of time that organs and tissues are viable for transplantation.

Description:

We are seeking a Scientist/Senior Scientist to join our Preclinical Pharmacology Group. The successful candidate will be a motivated and experienced in vivo Senior Scientist to support our lead projects.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and conduct studies testing the efficacy and tolerability of small molecule drug candidates in in vivo models of human disease.
  2. Establish and manage outside collaborations focused on testing of prototype drug products in in vivo models.
  3. Prepare study reports for inclusion in regulatory filings with the FDA.
  4. Train and supervise research associate(s).
  5. Communicate important findings and results to management. Makes presentations within Ikaria as well as at external scientific meetings.

Requirements:

  1. PhD or MD plus a minimum of five (5) years experience in pharma and/or biotechnology in preclinical characterization of small molecule therapeutic drugs.
  2. Recognized expertise and significant publication history in cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary, or critical care medicine.
  3. Track record of success in drug characterization, including in vivo models of human disease development, in vivo pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, and analytical methods development.
  4. Experience with radiotelemetry monitoring of energy metabolism and continuous intravenous drug administration is highly desired.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  7. Previous supervisory experience desirable.
  8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  9. Willingness to work in the dynamic and changing environment of a start-up company.
