Senior Scientist/Group Leader, Analytical Methods Development

This position will manage a group of scientists responsible for methods development, and structural characterization of Seattle Genetics’ (SGEN) antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). This person will also, on occasion, have responsibility for the technical oversight of contract testing laboratories working on SGEN projects. This person will be responsible for providing the necessary analytical and characterization information for IND and BLA filings. Close Collaboration with Research, Regulatory, Process Development and Quality Control Departments is expected. This position is part of the Analytical Biochemistry and Formulations group.

Specific responsibilities of this group include:

  • Development and qualification of chromatographic assays (HPLC, LC-MS/MS), Immunoassays (impurity ELISAs, Western-blot) and electrophoretic assays (SDS-PAGE, IEF, CE) for process characterization and QC release of our antibodies and ADCs.
  • In-depth characterization of our antibody drug products that are further along in clinical development.
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of analytical instrumentation including new technologies useful to SGEN’s future drug development efforts.
  • Preparation of analytical data, reports, and CMC documents required for various regulatory authorities.
  • Represent Analytical Biochemistry on Program Teams and/or subteams.
  • Coordinate transfer of assays to contract manufacturing laboratories and/or to in-house quality laboratory.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership for several scientists and associates.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemistry with additional relevant experience in an Analytical group in Biotechnology Process Development (8+ years). Proven supervisory and managerial skills are essential. Hands-on experience and a good understanding of biophysical protein characterization, Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), ELISAs, chromatographic and electrophoretic methods development and qualification, is desired.
