Associate Computational Scientist

Celltech R&D;, Inc. Job Description:

We are currently seeking a Associate Computational Scientist to join our Bioinformatics group. This individual will be directly involved in the application of computational tools for gene discovery and target validation. Current projects include finding genes via mutational mapping, finding additional members of known gene families, and finding novel genes based on expression and function. This individual will also provide software training and support to laboratory personnel.

Qualifications:

This position requires a B.S. or equivalent in Molecular Biology or a related field. Formal training and experience in molecular biology and demonstrated computer aptitude and familiarity with common desktop applications is essential. Experience with laboratory workflow for high throughput sequencing and genotyping is desirable. Also desirable is a working knowledge of the tools for sequence assembly, genotype data process and analysis and mutation and polymorphism detection. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team. This person will work in a highly collaborative team environment requiring the ability to communicate ideas and grasp new concepts quickly and provide a bridge between knowledge domains. Also essential are a high degree of motivation and independence and excellent technical and communication skills.
